Andrew Hignell08-Jun-2002Simon Jones has retained his place in England`s squad for the third and final npowerTest Match against Sri Lanka starting at Old Trafford on June 13th. The only change tothe squad is the omission of Derbyshire all-rounder Dominic Cork.Jones was in the party for the second Test at Edgbaston, and despite not making the final eleven, the young Glamorgan pace bowler fielded as 12th man on the final day when England beat thetourists. With leading cricket writers suggesting that the Manchester wicket may have pace and bounce, some journalists are suggesting that this Test will be an ideal opportunity for Jones to makehis England debut, ahead of the Ashes Tour this winter.Commenting on the selection, Chairman of Selectors, David Graveney, said: “”We don’t yet know what the Old Trafford pitch will be like for next week. Althoughtraditionally hard and with pace, we will have to wait until next week to assess the effect ofany rain which it might have had on it.”Glamorgan fans will be hoping that Simon makes the final eleven, and enjoys more luck onthe Old Trafford ground for England than his father Jeff did in the 1966 series against theWest Indians. In that game, the left arm pace bowler returned figures of 28-6-100-0 as England lost by an innings and 40 runs.Tickets for the Test match against Sri Lanka are still availablevia the ECB Ticket Hotline on 08705 33 88 33.
