U.S. international Tim Weah has a knack for timing, delivering his first Marseille goal in dramatic fashion on Tuesday. Weah scored the opener against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the club’s opening Champions League match of the season. The winger was assisted by Mason Greenwood, who found Weah running to his right in the 22nd minute.

Weah had struggled to make an impact in attack for Marseille in his first four matches with the club, registering an xG of 0.01 during that stretch. Some of that was down to shuttling between playing defense and as a winger. But against Madrid on Tuesday, Weah played on the left wing and delivered a clinical finish.

Despite OM taking an early lead, Madrid responded almost instantly, thanks to a penalty from Kylian Mbappe in the 29th minute.

Looking ahead

Following the Madrid Champions League match, OM will take on heated rivals Paris Saint-Germain in Le Classique this weekend.
